If someone were to ask me whether or not Global Warming is real, I will always answer with a resounding, "Of course it is!" You can always argue that because we are having these enormous cold snaps it just proves that Global Warming is now false. Like everything in nature, you can have an overall trend toward something while still having the opposite effects happening on occasion.

Some also argue that even if it is true that the severity is inflated. I must say that there is truth to that, but to say that the severity is insignificant when you watch footage of polar bears struggling to survive because their home has melted is all the more proof that Global Warming is a problem.

Even if Global Warming is a hoax, surely some of the changes being advocated will help the environment in the long run, whether man made or natural. To get more perspective on the issue, I interviewed two students to receive their opinions.

Allison said: While steps to taking care of our environment cannot in any case be considered negative, I believe the whole issue of Global Warming became a complete scandal when it became political.

Decreasing the amount of air pollution and recycling when we are able will prove to be very beneficial to our everyday life, but I do not believe for a second that large masses of land will be submerged in a matter of years or will any of the other weather catastrophes they have threatened us with occur.

If an issue has someone making a substantial profit behind it, there is probably a need to do some non-biased research on it yourself. We like to think the important figures of our society are respectable and honest, but at times greed can get in the way.

As I mentioned before, though, taking care of our environment is, without a doubt, very important. It is easy to see that we as Americans waste a lot of unnecessary energy, produce a large excess of waste, and emit far more harmful substances into our air and water then we need to. I think we should take a lot more pride in our planet, just not so much because of Global Warming.

Chris said: I've always been under the impression that Global Warming was a hoax. After the leak of articles from University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit, it just further proved that the situation isn't serious.

I can easily admit that we as humans aren't doing all we can to help our environment. Some of the things we do are indeed harmful to the environment, but not to the severity that some of these scientists are boasting. The leaked articles are telling scientists to stretch their data to near falsity, and they are also showing no signs of increasing temperatures in the last 11 years. Those two reasons are enough to keep me on my one track mind and ignore all this talk about Global Warming.

Is Global Warming a hoax or is it happening? You decide.
