Lake Land's Men's and Women's Basketball season is in full swing. With the basketball season also brings the cheerleaders' season.

The squad is made up of 12 women who are at all men and women's basketball games, including the away games. One occurring theme among the cheerleaders is their disappointment in the crowd's participation.

"I feel like we don't have that here," said one cheerleader in regards to the audience participation. Despite their efforts to rev up the crowd, the crowd is still unresponsive.

Despite a lack of audience participation, the ladies still enjoy cheerleading. Mary Reynolds, a member of the cheerleading squad, said that to her, cheerleading means unity.

"I really enjoy it, because I get to be myself," said another. The squad also said that they mostly enjoy stunting, meaning the different type of stunts and tricks they perform, such as lifts and flips.

The cheerleaders have no males on the squad. The ladies said that having men on the squad would be a great asset. With a couple of males on the squad, they could perform bigger stunts said the cheerleaders.

Chris Ward, LLC's Cheerleading coach, said that 12 scholarships are available for next year and they are given out in the spring. She also said that tryouts begin in May for anyone interested in joining the squad.

The cheerleaders' main goal is to encourage the crowds. As one cheerleader put it "Cheer with us!"

When asked if the team dislikes not having their own competitions, Ward responded, "No. It is not something that we have ever done and currently just want to focus on cheering for the men's and women's basketball teams. We are one of the few cheerleading teams that cheers for both."
