Now before you think I'm talking about alcohol, Moonshine is a town located just south of Casey, famous for its lunch special, the Moonburger.
Operating since 1889, the Moonshine store has been locally run by Helen and Roy Lee Tuttle for the past twenty-eight years after being first owned by Enid Misner. Opening at six in the morning and turning off their grills at twelve thirty sharp, you have to get there early to get your food.
Moonshine is an unchanged gem of a place and offers great atmosphere as well as genuine hospitality. The whole store operates on the honor system, which is hard to find in the day and age we live in. When you go there, you'll definitely enjoy the service and friendly faces.
The food is a treat itself, but the real adventure comes with the trip there, which can be accomplished by four easy steps. First, make sure to go with friends or family that will enjoy the trip as much as you. Second, enjoy the trip there; often the trip is the best part. Third, be sure to keep watch on the directions. Moonshine is located somewhat out of the way of the normal route, and getting lost usually isn't as fun as finding your initial destination. Fourth and lastly, just enjoy the atmosphere of the place as well as their great food. The store offers a variety of lunch foods like Moonburgers (Moonshine's trademark hamburgers), hot dogs, chips, etc.
Those that have already visited Moonshine and experienced all it has to offer know what a worthwhile trip it is. "A group of friends and I drove about 70 miles to go there....it was a lot of fun!" said Valerie Lynch, a student at Lake Land College.
Another student, Julie Tucker, said, "I had to go with someone who knew the way or we would never had found it! Once we got there, the place was packed! I can't believe they use the honor system when paying for your food; no ticket, you just tell them what you had...almost unheard of in this day and age! Everyone should go there at least once in their lifetime because there isn't another place like it"
A trip to Moonshine is definitely a trip worth taking, whether you make it a family trip or go with a group of friends. No matter how many times you go, it'll always be an adventure.
