Lake Land athletics offers summer camp to young volleyball players. You can sign your young super stars up for these camps online; there is a link on the Lake Land athletics page.
The 2009 volleyball camps are June 15-18 for children grades 5-12. Grades 5-8 will meet 9:00am - 11:30 am. Grades 9-12 will meet at 1:00pm-3:30 pm. The cost for each of these volleyball sessions is 35 dollars. Checks can be mailed in advance or brought the day of the clinic.
On the 15-16, they will have a setter/hitter clinic. Setting a ball is a strategic ability in which a player directs a ball to a point where another player can spike it into the opponents' court. To hit the ball means to jump and strike the ball with an over hand forceful shot.
The 17-18 will be a defense/passing camp. Players will learn skills such as how to correctly use the forearm pass, a pass where the athlete joins their arms at the elbows to their wrists and strikes the ball with their forearms, in an underhanded movement.
Participants can pick and choose which sessions they wish to attend. The following items need to be brought in order to take part in the activities: gym shoes, water bottle, kneepads, and gym clothes.
The volleyball team will also be having team competitions this summer. June 19-20 will be the dates for the summer challenge. July 17-18 will be the pre-season challenge. A maximum of 24 teams will be allowed to compete. The fees for this event will be 200 dollars for one team and 350 dollars for two teams.
