Students of Lake Land College will be paying more for classes in approaching semesters. This follows a unanimous decision by the Board of Trustees to raise tuition fees by $4 and service fees by $1.
"To keep pace with technology and serve the community at the level we do, then we must do this," said President Scott Lensink.
Trustee members also made clear that state funding for the college has shrunk significantly, down 14 percent. This increase was needed if the Lake Land was to maintain a healthy budget.
Tina Stovall, vice president of student services, supported the decision. She stated that, although the college does everything it can to avoid having to raise tuition, when it is necessary the college does so as little as possible.
Nonetheless, Lake Land College tuition remains one of the most affordable in the state. This increase will likely do little to nudge Lake Land from maintaining the third lowest tuition in the state.
