So who's to call this decision, made by the National Toy Museum in Rochester N.Y., a bad one? After all, a stick is far more than a stick. Think of how many knights a stick has defeated, or dragons slayed? Beyond just being a toy, the stick makes for a fantastic fishing pole, a favorite not so ancient disciplinarian tool by parents, or a divining rod used in finding hidden sources of water.
No, No, this is far more than just an organic inexpensive plaything for amateurs. In fact, only the most imaginative professional game player can use this game piece. Yet, it is so easy to use dogs have had it in their toy hall of fame for centuries. Well, at least they would have had they thought about it.
Now that the stick has received its much deserved attention, it could be argued that many other toys can be removed from the consideration list and the Toy Hall of Fame altogether. No need for the wand, princesses, the stick can do that. Who needs the prepackaged "Pick-Up Sticks" game with the real stick hanging on the wall? Tinker Toys, plastic swords, battery operated rifles have nothing on the good ole stick.
With green being the new plastic, and the economy the way it is, there is a good chance the stick may find its way back on the hook above many fireplaces this year.
