All students want an understanding of their surroundings, and it can be hard if you are not used to being in that particular environment. Cultural Connections is a new program started by Lori Morrissette, director of student life, and Katie Lotz, director of international studies, that helps connect international students with domestic students.

The sign up process is easy, all you have to do is fill out an interest form and meet with the student you are paired with at least 1 or 2 times a month to help them with homework, or to help them understand the English slang used in everyday conversation. You could even just get together to hang out and have some pizza.

The goal of the program is to help international students feel more comfortable in their surroundings and understand English slang. Many of our International students come from urban areas so this area has an unfamiliar pace. It will also offer volunteer students the chance to learn about other cultures.

If you or anyone you know who is a student at Lake Land College is interested in joining the Cultural Connections program please stop by the Student Life Office and pick up an interest form today! For more questions regarding the program you can contact Lori Morrissette at lmorrissette@lakeland.cc.il.us or Katie Lotz at klotz@lakeland.cc.il.us
